Welcome to High Mountain Dentistry!
Today is opening day !! Hi, this is Peter Perera, DMD writing my first blog to the dental community of Bergen/ Passaic Counties. Every couple of weeks I will be posting my thoughts on a particular case or dentistry in general or just life in the new crazy ‘20s.
I hate to say it but after the Fourth came and went and a week of crazy heat n humidity, August is knocking on the door. I personally had a great July , my brother was in from California and my older daughter was up from Florida with her fiancé ( a word I am getting used to saying ) and we really had 2 great weekends together.
Getting back to dentistry, we have been very busy with our routine recall exams and cleanings .. some every 3 months , most every 6 months and for those of you who are regulars, we stay on schedule and respect the patients time. We take great pride in being a punctual doctor’s office.
I am currently in the middle of a couple bigger cases , multiple crown or cap units connected together to form bridges to either restore broken or unaesthetic teeth or unfortunately if a tooth had to be removed. These cases are very rewarding to see come to fruition. One particular case I will show is a complete restoration of the entire lower arch.
This patient unfortunately lost all his lowers due to gum disease and honestly neglect over the years. In coordination with a local oral surgeon, his 10 remaining teeth were extracted and 6 implants were placed. After several months of “healing” (the term is osseointegration ) , we were ready to get him teeth. He presented with those 6 healing abutments and pretty healthy tissue , they all get unscrewed , and impression pins are screwed into the implants ( completely painless ) , we used a red acrylic “jig” to make sure of the accuracy and took a final impression, which lead to 12 new teeth !! It doesn’t get any bigger or cooler then that. There is of course an adjustment period and several visits to get things just right but the patient is no stranger to this .. we did the exact same thing on top about 7-8 years ago. He did go out for a steak dinner soon there after. Enjoy eating again.
Another summer weekend is approaching, get out and enjoy it as we are booking our 6 month cleaning appointments for February!!
